MISSION STATEMENT
To
transport students safety to and from their destination ready to learn.
BUS CONDUCT
PURPOSE
To provide guidelines in order that bus conveyances "shall conserve the comfort, safety, and welfare of the pupils conveyed and shall be in the charge
of a responsible driver who shall have control over the conduct of the pupils while they are being conveyed".
POLICY
The parent/guardian is responsible for the supervision of their child until such time as the
child boards the bus in the morning and after the child is discharged upon his/her return.
Once the child boards the bus, he/she becomes the responsibility of the school district. Such
responsibility shall end when the child is delivered to the regular bus stop at the close of the school day.
The
Board shall require children to conduct themselves on the bus in a manner consistent with established standards for school and classroom behavior.
In such cases when a child does not conduct him/herself properly on the bus, such
instances shall be specified
in writing and/or on videotape and shall be discussed with the principal of the child's school by the bus driver.
BUS DISCIPLINE PLAN
1ST
OFFENSE: The bus driver shall make the broken rule known to the student and discuss it with him/her. Verbal Warning
2nd OFFENSE: The bus driver shall write a Bus Discipline Report and give it to the
school office. (The bus driver and the school administrator shall meet/talk about the situation). A copy of the Bus Discipline Report will be sent to the student's
home. 1st Written
Report
3rd OFFENSE: The bus driver shall report the offense
in writing to the building administrator. The building administrator will impose a suspension of bus privileges of from 1-3 days as appropriate. 2nd Written Report
4th OFFENSE: The bus driver shall report the offense in writing to the building
administrator. The building
administrator will impose a suspension of bus privileges from 10-30 days as appropriate. 3rd Written Report
5th OFFENSE: The bus driver shall report the offense in writing to the building
administrator. The building
administrator will impose a suspension of bus privileges for 2 or 3 quarters. 4th Written Report
If
a bus driver reports a student for a 2nd through 5th offense under the Bus Discipline Rule, the school
administrator and the bus driver shall meet/talk about the situation. Because of the need to do this in a timely manner, this meeting should be held as
soon as possible, but no later than 48 hours.
GROSS MISBEHAVIOR
Any offense from the following list, depending on the severity, may place the student on the 3rd,
4th, or 5th
step of the discipline plan:
1.
Fighting,
2. Disrespect exhibited toward the bus driver,
3. Dangerous behavior,
4.
Destruction of school property,
5. Emergency door violation.
Situations not specifically defined, but of a serious enough nature, will be included under Gross Misbehavior.
SAFETY RULES
1. A bus driver has the same authority as
a teacher in the classroom.
2. Students at the bus stop are expected to follow all safety
rails.
3. Students should plan on being at their bus stop 5 minutes
prior to the scheduled time of bus arrival. Drivers will not wait for tardy students. Students are to stay 10 feet back from the loading zone.

Student should be courteous
and respectful to driver and passengers.
Normal tone of voice, No name calling, No spitting
5.
Dangerous conduct is
unacceptable. Students should not fight, get out of their seats, throw objects, trip others, put any part of their body out of the window (including
hair, etc.).
6. Students shall not use profane language or obscene gestures.
7. Destruction of property or stealing will require restitution.
8. Students should not spray anything such as hair spray, perfume, etc.
9. Due to safety reasons, these items are not permitted on the bus:
Hard candy
Lollipops
Glass
Animals
Tobacco Products
Food or drink
Shaving cream
Boom
boxes (walkman are permitted)
Matches or lighters
Illegal substances
Water
(except for sports)
Others
as determined by the bus driver
10. Emergency
door(s) must be closed except in case of emergency.
11. Students must always cross in front of the bus.
12. Parent/guardians of students at isolated stops will be requested to call if a bus
is not needed.
13. Students are not permitted to bring any object that is too
big to be held on their
laps
(exception: sports equipment).
14. No cleats will be worn on the bus at any time.
15.
These rules apply to all regular
runs, field trips and sporting events.

SECTION
1222 - HARASSMENT POLICY
PURPOSE
The Board of Directors
recognizes the right of each student and employee to work in an atmosphere, which is free of intimidation, hostility, and
offensiveness. Acts of harassment on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, age, national origin, or handicap are a violation
of this policy and may also constitute illegal discrimination under federal laws.
DEFINITIONS
Examples:
1. Unwelcome sexual advances, gestures, comments,
or pressure for
sexual activity.
2. Threats
3. Offensive jokes
4. Ridicule, slurs, derogatory actions or remarks
5. Unwelcome physical contact.
The Maine State Law specifies that harassment on the basis of sex shall include:
1.
Unwelcome sexual advances
2. Requests for sexual favors
3. Physical or verbal conduct of a sexual nature when:
a. submission to such conduct is made either explicitly or implicitly
a term or condition of an individual's
employment or education, or,
b. submission to or rejection of such conduct by an individual is used as the basis for academic
or employment decisions affecting the individual, or,
c. such conduct has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering
with an individual's academic or professional performance or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive
employment
or educational environment.
POLICY
Conduct that is harassing to the student or employees will not be tolerated. Any employee or student who violates this policy will be subject to
disciplinary action up to and including termination or expulsion. In some cases, offenders may be susceptible to prosecution under state and/or federal law.
No employee or student will be subject to any discipline or adverse treatment because the employee
or student made a complaint
of harassment. Appropriate confidences shall be maintained.
Further threats, intimidation, or reprisals
will be treated as serious offenses that could result in expulsion or termination.
Appropriate information regarding harassment and recourse
shall be posted in a prominent and accessible location in each work place in the District. Education and training shall take place as required by law
for all employees and students.
