Students Helping Students Big
Brothers Big Sisters Program
Rockland District High School students are learning the challenges and great rewards of becoming a mentor through the Big
Brothers Big Sisters program. Every Tuesday, High School Students (the "Bigs") meet with a group of MacDougal School
elementary students (the "Littles") to enjoy making crafts, playing games, or simply talking about life.
This program is organized by MacDougal School Title 1 Teacher, Jeanne Niswander and David Nelson, the site-based mentoring
program manager for the midcoast branch of Big Brothers Big Sisters.
While this Big Brothers Big Sisters school-based
mentoring program is not a tutoring program, the results have a positive impact on younger children helping them to become
more confident which helps to improve their performance in school.
