The purpose
of an elementary school character education program is to develop social health traits including citizenship, honesty, respect
for others, kindness, cooperation, courtesy, respect for home, school, and community environments, and generosity. Classroom
teachers, guidance counselors, and parents can teach young students about the importance of appreciating and helping others
and model civic responsibility and public service themselves.
At MacDougal school students will be discussing
and practicing “character” skills. Each month during our assembly, the children will be assigned
a new skill so they know what their mission is for the month. Students who demonstrate the appropriate character
skills are presented with a “star student” award certificate, have their photo displayed on the bulletin board,
and are recognized at the monthly assembly.
