Kids First, created by Title 1 Teacher Jeanne Niswander, offers helpful
tips on ways you can help your child grow, learn, live healthy, and become responsible well rounded people. Soon it will include
information on grade level expectations and suggestions of things you can do at home to help your child reach those expectations.
We will be adding book lists by grade level for summer reading as well as ideas on how to continue helping your
child with their reading and math during the summer.

When dropping off your children by the front door in the morning, please pull up farther if there is a bus behind
you. This will keep the traffic flow going and will not interfere with the children getting off the bus.
Also, please wait before allowing your child out of your vehicle if there is a
bus pulled up already. The bus drivers cannot see the students if they run in front of the buses.

Students need to bring a note from your home regarding
any change in after school activities or transportation. Please do not put the school in an uneasy position of not knowing
for sure what your child is to do after school.
|
|
|
|
|
Any student who is late to school must bring
a note from a parent or guardian. If the tardiness is unexcused then the student may be asked to makeup the time after
school.

Absences
Please call the school at 596-2005 if your child is
absent. Students are requested to bring a note from home indicating the reason for an absence. The school staff
will call home to verify absences if no call from you is received. By state law an "excused" absence must
fit into one of the following areas:
* Personal illness * Appointments with health professional that cannot
be made outside the regular school day. Students should return to school if at all possible. *
Emergency family situations. * Planned absences for personal or educational purposes which have received
prior approval from the principal. * Observances of recognized religious holidays.

Please be sure that your children are dressed appropriately for
the various weather conditions. Students will be going out for recess unless the weather is extreme. We ask your cooperation
in seeing that students do not wear items that promote drugs, alcohol, or tobacco in any way. Students may not wear T-Shirts
etc. containing slogans that may offend others. Appropriate student dress is expected even in the warmest weather. Hats should
not be worn in the building unless there are special circumstances. Proper footwear should be worn to ensure safety especially
in Physical Education Class.

Visitors & Volunteers
Parents and other adults are welcome
to visit our school. Please contact the office or the individual teacher for a convenient time. For security purposes,
all visitors (including volunteers) are asked to sign in at the office before going to any area of the school.
When coming to school to get your child, please stop at the office and have your child paged. Going to the classrooms
is often distracting (even at the end of the day) when teachers are giving assignments or checking on after-school plans.

|
Dismissals (and) Custody Issues
If you wish to have your children dismissed from school you must sign
them out at the office. If someone other than a parent or known relative is to pick up your child, the office should
be notified in advance. Dismissals should be kept to a minimum so the student does not lose instructional time.In the
case of custody and visitation issues the principal will honor the most recent legal papers and contact the authorities for
assistance if necessary.

We believe that homework is an important part of the educational
process. In assigning homework, the teacher will consider the individual student's needs, ability, home situation,
and the availability of resources in the home environment. School will provide an equal opportunity for all students.
Suggested homework times for Kindergarten is 0-10 minutes per night and 10 minutes per night for first graders.
When a child is absent, you should call the school to request work that is being missed. upon returning, the
student will be allowed the number of days absent plus one day to make up the work missed.
