Conduct, Rules, & Discipline

Dear Families,

Elementary age children are learning to manage their feelings and thought process which helps them to control their behavior.  Children who are able to control their behavior are better prepared to follow rules.

Please help us teach your child to regard our school’s rules which are based on two principles

Children will not be allowed to participate in activities that may lead to bodily harm to themselves or others.

Children will not be allowed to engage in activities that interfere with the right of others to learn and play.

Additionally, our rules and policies apply to any student who is on school property, who is in attendance at school or any school sponsored activity, or whose conduct at any time or any place directly interferes with the operations, discipline, or general welfare of the school.

Thank you!

Code of Conduct...

We will respect others
We will respect property
We will be safe
We will be prepared
We will be responsible

Detention

Students may be kept after school for discipline or to do make-up work by their teachers or the office. The student will call home to alert their parents that he/she will be late. If a parent cannot be reached, a note will be sent home and the student will be expected to remain after school the next day.

Harassment

Threats of any kind: ethnic, racial, sexual, or religious remarks of a negative nature will not be tolerated and will be dealt with on a case by case basis including the notification of proper authorities. (Consequences would be under the Severe Clause.)

Discipline Procedures

webassets/principalsoffice.jpg

Each teacher will have their own system of discipline within the individual classroom and will communicate this to students and parents.  When a student goes through all the discipline steps within the classroom or playground, he/she will be referred to the Principal's Office. Action will be based on the number of office referrals AND on the severity of the offense.

"Severe Clause"

In cases where the behavior is of a severe nature, the Principal has the right to discipline the student based on the offence and not on the number of office referrals. Some of the items covered under the severe clause would be:

Blatant disobedience, smoking, use of drugs, possession of illegal substances including tobacco products, possession of any object that could be classified as a weapon, physical violence towards anyone, swearing or using obscene gestures , damaging school property, theft, skipping school, any dangerous behavior or harassment.

Students and desks may be searched for dangerous items. Threats of any kind will be taken seriously. In-school and/or Out-of-school suspension are possible consequences for the above listed under the Severe Clause.
