Dear Families, Winter
is gone and spring has arrived. The signs are all around us. Flowers have begun to bloom outside our front foyer,
robins have returned once again, and our students are beginning to show signs that they are ready to advance to the next grade.
Spring is definitely a fun time in an elementary school. It has been exciting time to watch our students grow both academically
and socially. Thank you to all of the parents and staff members who work diligently to help our students be the best
learners they can be. Our Parents, Teachers, and Friends Group is wonderful. Their continued support of our students
and our school is greatly appreciated. It is so important for a strong connection between the school and our community.
There are many exciting events coming up and we need your help. Please join us at our monthly meetings. We always
meet on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Our next meeting will be held on April 7th at South School.
I hope to see you there. I hope you enjoy our website. There are many new articles on some of our recent school
celebrations. A great time was had by all as we celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday. Thank you to all of the volunteers
who came to read his wonderful, magical stories. He certainly is a legend. Those trickster leprechauns visited
our school and wreaked havoc. They made messes in our classrooms but did leave some rhyming poems for us to read.
They also left a treat for all. Our students wrote letters to them but we are still waiting for them to write us back.
We'll keep you posted if we hear from them. As we make our final trek towards June please remember that school attendance
is crucial to the continued achievement of all of our students. Thanks for your support in this endeavor! I look
forward to our last quarter this year. Our new last day of school is now Thursday, June 18th due to our five
snow days. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me anytime at 596-2005. Mr.
Martin

The Harlem Rockets Rock our World

The Harlem Rocket's visit to MacDougal School was nothing less than hilarious!
The Rockets have a unique combination of amazing basketball skills and a crazy sense of humor. Our school was literally roaring
with laughter as the Rockets engaged students and staff in a zany game of ball. I'm still not sure who won! The Harlem Rockets were in town to participate in the project graduation fundraiser
held by the high school. They played our RDHS Dream team which consisted of our very own gym teacher, Mr. Petrie. Mr. Petrie
showed mad skills on the basketball court which won him the "Mr. Petrie MacDougal School Fan Club." Way to go Mr.
Petrie! We'd like to thank the high school for sharing the wonderful entertainment of the Harlem Rockets with us!

This is where it all
begins! This first grader is reading Mr. Martin a book that she wrote and illustrated. Maybe
we should ask for her autograph now!

Save Your Box Tops, Hannaford Points, and Campbells Labels

|
|
We need your help! Mrs. Honkonen is in charge of our Box Tops, Hannaford
Points, Campbells labels, and Shaws receipts program. With your assistance these things can turn into many items for our students. Please send in all of these items to school with your child or drop them off. There
is a collection tub outside the office by our Box Tops bulletin board. Also, throughout the year we have different kinds
of contests that help motivate us to remember to bring these things in. Should you have any questions about what you can send in, please call Mrs. Honkonen at 596-2005. Thanks.

Mischief, Mayhem, and Leprechauns Oh What a Time We Had!
|
|

Naughty little Leprechauns stopped by our school to partake in a bit
of mischief and a whole lot of mayhem on St. Patrick's Day. Their amusing deeds of mischief could not go unnoticed as
our classrooms were found littered with gold and a wee bit messy (apparently Leprechauns do not know the meaning of tidy up
time!). The Leprechauns, being an ever so witty lot, left each classroom a clever poem so there would be no doubt as to who
left the gold and mess behind.

Mr. Forti Visits MacDougal
|
|

On Wednesday, February 11, I had the pleasure of spending the day
as the MacDougal School principal. I was made to feel really welcome by the staff and I cannot say enough about the "kiddos",
as Mr. Martin calls them. They read to me, solved math problems for me and made me all kinds of beautiful art work, some of
which is hanging in my office. They were polite and respectful. They displayed vast amounts of energy and excitement. They
begged me to sing and dance but, so as not to risk crying students or angry parents, I politely declined. The atmosphere at the MacDougal School can best be described as joyous and nurturing
with a staff that seems to truly enjoy what they do. I had the opportunity to see this firsthand and have come away with a
better understanding, as well as added respect for the work that goes on just down the street from the high school. Thanks to Mr. Martin, Mrs. Lessard and all who helped make this happen. Here's
hoping other folks in the district give it a try. Tom Forti Principal, Rockland District High School

Dr.
Seuss Day Celebration!

March 4th was a very special day at our school. It was the day we celebrated
Dr. Seuss' birthday. We celebrated the event with birthday cake
and a very special afternoon. Students heard some of Dr.
Seuss' best known classics. Some of our guest readers for the afternoon included Superintendent Lucarelli, High School
Principal, Tom Forti, School Board Member, Tess Kilgour, and University of Maine consultant Marcia Boody, among others. It
was a special day to celebrate a special author. A special thanks goes out to Mrs.Tolman and the planning team for designing
our day.

Grand Friend Lunch

Grandparents
and friends of MacDougal students were recently invited to join us for lunch. Students were very excited
to introduce their “grand” or “friend” to their teacher and classmates. Thank
you to all the families who took the time to join us for lunch. It's not every day someone
gets to eat with sixty-five six year olds!
